The mighty Sun Temple at Konark is one of India's most astonishing temples.  The history of the temple, built in the mid-13th century, is shrouded in mystery.  The entire temple was conceived as a chariot for the sun god, Surya.  Around the base of the temple are 24 gigantic carved stone wheels.  Seven mighty stone horses haul at the temple and the immense structure is covered with carvings, sculptures, figures and bas-reliefs.  Many are in the erotic style for which Konark is famous and include entwined couples, as well as solitary exhibitionists.
